Frequently asked questions
- Do you hold active contracts with federal or state agencies?
- We currently support active engagements with state-level authorities under NDA. Federal work is subcontracted through prime contractors for now; we’re pursuing a GSA MAS schedule.
- What compliance frameworks do you align with?
- NIST 800-53 (Rev 5), FedRAMP Moderate (pattern-aligned), StateRAMP, SOC 2 (Type II in progress), Section 508 / WCAG 2.1 AA, HIPAA, and PCI DSS where applicable.
- Can Bilions prime, or only subcontract?
- Both. We prime at the state level and subcontract on federal programs through teaming agreements with primes we’ve worked with before.
- How fast can you respond to an RFP or RFI?
- Most RFI responses go out within five business days. RFPs are typically seven to fourteen business days depending on requirements.
- Do engineers have US citizenship or clearances?
- All Bilions engineers are US-based. We maintain a cleared bench for engagements requiring Public Trust, Secret, or higher.
- Will you sign agency-specific security addenda?
- Yes. BAAs, DPAs, FISMA language, and agency-specific cybersecurity riders have all been through our legal review process before.
- What is your approach to ATO (Authority to Operate)?
- We design for ATO from sprint one, not as an afterthought. Engineers document control implementations as they build, and SSP templates align to your agency’s RMF workflow.
- What is your pricing model?
- Fixed-price, time-and-materials, or hybrid. Fixed-price engagements include milestone payments and our zero-overrun commitment on the defined scope. Managed service is available post-launch.
- Do you provide post-deployment support?
- Every engagement includes a 90-day warranty covering defects and critical issues at no additional cost. Extended managed service adds 24/7 monitoring, SLA-backed response, and quarterly patching.
- How do you ensure knowledge transfer?
- Documentation is a deliverable, not an afterthought. Every project produces runbooks, architecture decision records, and control matrices. Our goal is to make ourselves replaceable, that’s the definition of good delivery.
- How does the zero-overrun commitment actually work?
- On fixed-price sprints, we scope the work against a written SOW with acceptance criteria. If we underestimated the effort, we absorb the cost, not you.
- Can we start with a smaller pilot before committing?
- Yes, in fact, we prefer it. Our typical first engagement is a six-week discovery sprint at roughly $85K.
- What does a dedicated team look like in practice?
- Typical squad: three to seven people, senior engineers, a tech lead, and a product/delivery partner. Weekly demos, transparent velocity tracking.
- Can you work with our existing Salesforce / AWS setup?
- Yes. Platform-agnostic is a core operating principle. We’ve shipped on Salesforce, AWS, Azure, GCP, Snowflake, Databricks, and Kubernetes.
- What security & compliance assurances can you provide?
- SOC 2 Type II, NIST 800-53 aligned, FedRAMP pattern-ready. We sign BAAs, DPAs, and custom security addenda.
- Do you handle ongoing maintenance after launch?
- Two options: full ownership at handoff with documentation and a 30-day support window, or a Managed Service agreement with SLAs and monitoring.
- What does a typical engagement timeline look like?
- Discovery: one to two weeks. MVP ship: six to eight weeks. Full production release: twelve to sixteen weeks. We publish a delivery roadmap before sprint one and update it weekly.
- How do you handle intellectual property?
- You own everything we build, source code, documentation, architecture decisions, and deployment scripts. No vendor lock-in, no proprietary frameworks only we can maintain.
- How do I know if Bilions is the right fit?
- If you need senior engineers who ship on deadline, not a slide deck, we’re probably your team. Book a 20-minute call and we’ll tell you honestly if we’re the right fit, or point you to someone who is.
- Do you take RFPs from state and federal agencies?
- Yes, and we’re selective. We respond to RFPs where we believe the work is ship-able on the stated budget and timeline. If we can’t say that honestly, we’ll tell you and pass.
- What’s the smallest engagement you’ll take?
- Our typical minimum is a six-week discovery sprint at roughly $85K. Below that, we’ll likely recommend a different partner.
- Do you staff-aug? Junior devs? Offshore?
- No to all three. Every engineer on your engagement has at least ten years of production experience and sits in our Dallas office or on a US-based remote contract.
- Can you sign a BAA, DPA, or custom security addendum?
- Yes. We carry SOC 2 Type II, NIST 800-53 alignment, and are FedRAMP pattern-ready. Legal reviews typically close in under two weeks.
- How fast will I hear back?
- Average is 3.2 hours during business days. A principal, not a BDR, reads your note and replies directly.
